A 40% growth in hotel business has helped Co-operative Travel Management to deliver a strong sales performance in 2009, the company said today as its parent group announced record turnover and profits.
Anthony Rissbrook, head of Co-operative Travel Management, told Public Sector Travel: “Co-operative Travel Management’s performance during 2009 was strong in a difficult market.
“All public sector clients have demonstrated a desire to really focus on value from money during 2009. Co-operative Travel Management’s success in delivering a strong sales performance is based around the successful growth in new business wins in the public sector, particularly in the university sector in which the business has a specialism.
“Co-operative Travel Management is also particularly strong in the UK market with a strong foothold in the rail business which represents approaching 30% of its turnover. The business has also invested heavily in growing its hotel specialism and in a market that has fallen by 9% in 2009, Co-operative has grown its hotel business by 40%.”
The parent Co-operative Group today announced group sales for the 51 weeks to 2 January of £13.7 billion, up by 31%. Underlying profits rose by 22% to £338 million.
