Eurostar adds flexibility to premium economy fares

Eurostar, photo: Herbert OrtnerEurostar is to revamp its premium economy offering on its services between the UK and France and Belgium from September with the replacement of Leisure Select by Standard Premier.

Standard Premier will now offer flexible fares, a light meal and a selection of magazines and will replace the existing Leisure Select class. Fares will be refundable with a deduction of 15% of the full value of the ticket, or of the outstanding ticket value if one of the legs has already been travelled. Previously, Leisure Select fares were non-refundable.

The change means that passengers will now be offered a light, cold meal rather than a choice of three-course hot meals in the class.

Seats in Standard Premier, like those in the existing Leisure Select, are larger than those in Standard, typically offering an extra 10cm of legroom and 19cm of seat width.

Eurostar’s commercial director Nick Mercer said: “Following extensive research and feedback from our corporate clients and business travel agents, it became very clear that there was a strong appetite for a mid-range product pitched between our fully-flexible Business Premier and Standard classes.

“We have taken this on board and have now introduced a new class which not only meets the needs of our more cost-conscious business customers but also appeals to the leisure traveller looking for a bit of extra comfort and service on board.”

Tickets for the new class will go on sale from 5 May. Return fares for Standard Class start from £69, for Standard Premier from £189 (the same as the lead-in price for Leisure Select now) and for Business Premier from £450.
