Using an online booking tool can control expenses according to Duane Futch, head of global government programmes at Sabre and GetThere.
Futch outlined how demand management could be incorporated within a booking tool and technology used to control costs to delegates at Engage Manchester.
The former head of global travel for Wal-Mart said that technology could drive business intelligence and explained how demand management could be used to look at data, identify travel demands, the purpose of a business trip and what alternatives might be available.
Futch said that demand management could then be used to identify the most appropriate travel products for the kind of journey such as appropriate accommodation or “green” alternatives.
“The answers to the questions you set in the system heads you towards a proper decision,” he said.
Futch also highlighted the importance of technology to identify any fraud, waste and abuse that could be occurring in their organisations.
Engage Manchester is produced by Public Sector Travel and was sponsored by AirPlus, GetThere/Sabre, Novotel/Accor and Virgin Trains.
