Hotel booking company HRS has announced that the more than 250,000 hotels on its system are to be made available through the Amadeus global distribution system (GDS).
The agreement means that the more than 90,000 travel agents and 65,900 airline sales offices connected to Amadeus will now have access 50,000 independent hotels which were not previously bookable through GDS.
HRS chief executive officer, Tobias Ragge, said “The sales landscape for hotels has never been as diverse as it is today. To offer our hotel partners broad distribution from a single source, HRS is pursuing a systematic multi-channel strategy and is investing continually in new markets and additional sales channels. With the connection to Amadeus systems, we are offering our hotel partners an additional distribution channel.”
Integration of the content has begun and by Q2 2012 the companies say the content will be available by both the Amadeus e-Travel Management self-booking tool and the Amadeus Selling Platform used by travel agencies.
Yves Galimidi, global travel purchaser for furniture company IKEA said, “For Ikea, the Amadeus and HRS partnership is nothing but good news. It means we can find the best rooms for our travellers at the best price, without labour-intensive hotel shopping. The extensive additional choice of hotel properties mean all of Ikea’s unique, quickly-changing needs will be met. We are very pleased.”
