Dr Jacqui Wilkinson
Director, Beyond Engagement
Dr Jacqui Wilkinson is director and founder of Beyond Engagement, a consultancy which works with government, communities and businesses on improving public participation and engagement.
Between 2003 and 2008, she was head of sustainable travel Initiatives in the Department for Transport, championing the environmental and sustainability agenda both nationally and internationally. Major activities included setting up the National Business Travel Network in 2006 to help businesses face the combined challenges of addressing their own CO2 emissions whilst remaining profitable; initiating and managing over five years the DfT’s ‘Sustainable Travel Towns’ programme to demonstrate the increases in cycling, walking and public transport use that can be achieved through focused town-wide programmes; and providing expert advice both within the DfT and across government on strategies for reducing CO2 emissions from business travel and commuting to and from the government estate.
Jacqui has combined her professional work career with academic study, most recently with Aston Business School and Cranfield University.
Jacqui’s particular areas of expertise are implementing and developing government strategies; networking and complexity in public policy; transport, the environment, climate change and sustainability; and performance management and efficiency.
Jacqui has written a number of articles and papers on sustainable transport and public administration and policy. During 2010, she will be having papers on innovation in public policy published in the journals Public Policy and Administration and the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.
She is a member of the following organisations: Chartered Management Institute, Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (including being a member of the Sustainable Transport Panel and committee member of the Greater London Branch), Transport Planning Society, the Centre for Policy Studies and the Hansard Society.
